Greener Homes Scheme
Renewable energy Ireland - The low down on the future of sustainable energy.
If you are replacing your heating system at home and live in Ireland, think about buying a new renewable energy heating system. The Greener Homes Scheme has been set up by Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEI) on behalf of the Irish Government, looking to encourage more home owners to use renewable heating systems, renewable and sustainable energy.
In Ireland there are 3 different types of renewable energy heating systems; solar (energy from the sun), biomass (energy from burning types of wood and crops) and heat pumped (using natural heat sources in the earth or water). These are created from energy sources that are renewable, meaning they will not run out.
Grants are available to help consumers invest in renewable heating. Giving financial assistance to consumers makes renewable heating systems more attractive, saving the consumer money. The aim is to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions that are created in the domestic sector by encouraging people to buy a sustainable heating system. So who qualifies for the grants:
♦ Irish home owners; the person applying must fully own the property where the system will be fitted
♦ Applications must be approved prior to the system being bought and installed
♦ Heating system must be on the approved products list
♦ The fitter must be approved fitters list
Ireland uses a large amount of non renewable fossil fuels, which create toxic emissions that cause damage to the environment and are associated as hazardous to long term health. At some point in the future fossil fuels will run out.
The Greener Homes Scheme provides accessibility to renewable energy systems that move away from dependence on fossil fuel. Reducing use of fossil fuel means an urgently needed reduction in carbon emissions which will benefit the environment and allow Ireland to become self sufficient for energy –avoiding the changing costs of fuel prices.
