Recycled products, labels, organisations and accreditations

Eco labels for recycle, recycled, recyclable and recyclability are broken down into four areas:

* how much of the material for the product or packaging is produced from recycled waste

* at the end of the product lifespan, the material or object can be recycled

* the material which the product or packaging is made out of

* whether the product or packaging conforms to a certified recycling initiative

The National Association of Paper Merchants (NAPM) has been the only accredited trade association for paper and board merchants and wholesalers since it's foundation in 1920. The NAPM fully recognises that the product of paper has had a tremendously positive impact on our society, having improved the quality of our lives in many ways, however paper has been the victim of its own success resulting in legitimate concerns over the environmental impact from its manufacture.

The NAPM supports the United Kingdom's strategy for sustainable development in which a programme is set out of continuous improvement to reduce any harmful impacts of its members activities and operations on the environment and to prevent pollution. Paper and board qualities seeking to be accredited with one of the NAPM Recycled Paper Marks must be manufactured from a minimum of 50%, 75% or 100% genuine paper and board waste fibre, no part of which should contain mill produced waste.
