Eco Interior Designer

Nicola Elizabeth Jones BA (First Class Honours)

About me

Eco interior designer, Nicola Elizabeth Jones BA

My journey to being an eco interior designer...........

From as long as I can remember my passion has been design with my childhood spent expressing myself through fine art. I spent a week with an interior design company during work experience at school and little did I know then that my passion for interiors would develop exponentially from there. At college, I studied for a Diploma in general art & design searching for the core of my creative passion.

Over the next few years life steered me in different directions until finally the beginning of my passion began to unfold. Professionally I found myself working for an international airline within their product development team dealing with aircraft interiors and airline lounges. My love of interiors started to snowball! From there I completed a distance learning Bachelor of Arts degree in interior design & interior architecture and kept on working. After working on some truly fantastic projects, I then changed direction and trained as a residential painter and decorator for a year to build a base of decoration skills.

Moving back into the design field, I worked as a residential kitchen designer for a national manufacturer dealing with large scale construction developers in the new housing market. My trade experience then moved into a retail role as a kitchen, bedroom & bathroom designer in the South East of England.

Some years later I left the shores of England to study and subsequently worked in education leading me from Czech Republic to Germany. This ignited my interest in the teaching industry as I was able to combine my design experience with English language for in-company business education.

Over the years my interest in the environment, ecology and earth balance had come from a variety of influences such as university, events in the media, a changing outlook on life and living the ‘eco’ German lifestyle. Looking back on the roles I had worked in, I began to pick apart each company, design and manufacturer in terms of ecological footprints. What I found was a distinct lack of research, commitment and integration of all three elements; interior design, human health & wellbeing and our natural environment. The spark I needed was born and I chose to dedicate my career and personal ethos towards all things green and in particular holistic interior design and being an eco interior designer.

Moving to Ireland, I became involved with ‘O2 Ireland’, part of ‘O2’ the international voluntary group of sustainable designers as well as becoming a member of Cultivate, the Irish community organisation for sustainable living. I then combined my love of teaching and my passion for design working at a design academy. Sustainable and environmental education is part of the curriculum for interior design students; however there is room for improvement as a once small area of study is now becoming an urgent priority. Environmental and ethical responsibility falls increasingly into each interior designer’s role. My personal belief is that eco information should be freely available to everyone, without academia!

So that's my history spanning 7 years of commercial and residential interior design experience in the UK, over 4 years of teaching experience and that brings me to the creation of my webpage www.holistic-interior-designs.com and my role as an eco interior designer within my design practice ‘Earth Balance Interiors’, both of which I have established. To enlist my services as an eco interior designer please use this link to complete a 'remote enquiry form' or use this link to complete an 'onsite enquiry form' if you live in Dublin and the surrounding areas.

If like me you want to share your expertise and experience with others and build an internet business, then I can highly recommend Site Build It. Click here to read about how I built this website and how successful it has become.

And finally, a little about my ethos.....

My web based responsibility is to provide you with advice and resources, to share my knowledge and experience with you, so that you too can make a positive difference to your own health, wellbeing and our surrounding natural environment through interior design choices. Through continual research, development and life long learning my own eco expertise is ever growing. And so it is my personal responsibility to stay ahead of trends and advances in holistic interior design construction methods, materials and products. Lastly my professional responsibility is to provide you with uncompromised design solutions, environmentally friendly and ethical choices for your home, workplace and lifestyle.

Changing the world one eco webpage at a time.

Kindest Regards

Nicola Elizabeth Jones
